Question:What is the ruling on smoking, whether for a beginner or for someone who has been smoking for years and is aware of its serious harms?
Answer:In the name of Allah, if a competent doctor determines that smoking is harmful, then the person who is accustomed to it must completely refrain from smoking. In fact, we have stated that one who is not yet accustomed to smoking is not permitted to make a habit of it. If addiction occurs and the doctor advises against it, then abstention becomes obligatory. However, if doctors explicitly declare that it is not harmful — hypothetically — then it is permissible for someone already addicted to continue, but initiating the habit remains impermissible. Allah knows best.
Question:What is the ruling of smoking as a start for young people.
Answer:In the name of Allah, We have explained in our fatwas some time ago that if a good doctor decides that smoking is harmful, the person should stop smoking totally. Moreover, we said that a person who is not accustomed to smoking it is not permissible for him to make himself accostumed, and if the habituation occurs and the doctor forbids him, then he must abstain, and if the doctors state that it is not harmful - for example - then the habitant may continue. However, starting the habit of smoking is not permissible. Allah knows best.
Question:Is it permissible to trade and work in tobacco (cigarettes and tobacco)?
Answer:In the name of Allah, it is permissible. Allah knows best.
