Question:What is the ruling on doubting whether you recited Ḥayya ʿala aṣ-Ṣalāh (in the call to prayer) the first or second time?
Answer:In the name of Allah, one should repeat it in order to be certain that one has completed the adhān (call to prayer) or iqāmah (call to stand for prayer). Allah knows best.
Question:Some of my friends say that the phrase (Ali Wali [guardian of] Allah) is not part of the call to prayer, but it was fabricated by the Shiites. Can you advise regarding this? Are there sayings or hadiths of the imams (PBUT) in this regard, and did it start in the time of the imams (PBUT)?
Answer:In the name of Allah, this testimony is a symbol of Shiism, a symbol of true faith, and part of the true belief. It has been proven that inserting this testimony into the call to prayer and the iqaamah - practically - does not invalidate the considered unity in them. Therefore, this has become a symbol of the Shiite region in which this call to prayer is raised and there is a great promised reward for this testimony. Therefore, the eminent scholars throughout history have allowed it. Furthermore, those who leave it are considered to be outside Shiism according to the Shiite tradition. Allah knows best.
Question:Between the call to prayer and the iqaamah, I recite this supplication (My Lord, I prostrated to You submissively, devotedly and in humiliation). If this supplication is true, then what is the meaning of (submissive)?
Answer:In the name of Allah, submission is humiliation before Allah, and it is the meaning of worship in language. Allah knows best.
Question:Is the statement “Aliun walyu Allah” part of Athan and Iqama? I have heard that it is not part of neither of them. If it is so, when, why and how is it added?
Answer:In the name of Allah, Sheikh Altusi (may Allah be pleased with him) attains that there are certain narrations which include the third testimony that is represented by the statement “Aliun walyu Allah” within Athan and Iqama. Based on this, in addition to other evidence, we have issued the fatwa that the third testimony is recommended in the Athan and Iqama but without the intention that it is part of either of them. Allah knows best.
